The Arsenal 2021/22 third shirt comes from the first season of a young Arsenal side that was beginning to take shape under Mikel Arteta. The Gunners finished fifth in the Premier League, securing a return to European football, with Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, Emile Smith Rowe and Aaron Ramsdale among the standout figures. Saka enjoyed another excellent campaign, while Ødegaard's growing influence made him an increasingly important part of Arteta's team.
The shirt takes inspiration from Arsenal's famous “Blue Lightning” designs of the mid-1990s, giving a retro reference a fresh adidas interpretation. The main body is a deep navy blue, crossed by striking turquoise lightning-bolt graphics edged with red. The unusual pattern gives the shirt plenty of energy, while the contrasting colours and period-inspired split adidas logo add to its 1990s character.
This size Large example is a particularly eye-catching piece from the 2021/22 collection. The combination of navy, turquoise and red makes it very different from Arsenal's traditional red home shirt, while the lightning design gives it a distinctive identity of its own. Worn by a generation of players that included Saka and Ødegaard, it represents an interesting period in Arsenal's rebuilding under Arteta.
