Liverpool’s 2006/07 campaign is best remembered for another run to the Champions League final, with Xabi Alonso an important part of the midfield throughout the European campaign. Liverpool overcame Barcelona in the last 16 and Chelsea in a dramatic semi-final shootout before meeting AC Milan in Athens. Alonso even converted his penalty during the semi-final shootout against Chelsea, adding another memorable moment to a season that cemented his importance to the side.
The away shirt is a proper mid-2000s adidas classic, built around a striking yellow colour with red edging around the V-neck and detailing across the shirt. The adidas three stripes run along the shoulders, while the Carlsberg sponsorship gives it that unmistakable Liverpool look from the period. On the reverse, this particular shirt has ALONSO 14 in the official player lettering, making it considerably more special than a standard version.
Alonso wore number 14 during his Liverpool career and was already an established favourite with supporters by this point. This 2006/07 Liverpool away shirt in XL, complete with Alonso 14, brings together a distinctive vintage design and one of the most memorable Liverpool teams of the 2000s. A great shirt for anyone who remembers the Gerrard, Alonso and Carragher era and those big European nights.
